Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Because her father's departure the family of Ford, they were taken care of by her mom, grandmother as well as godparents. When she was a young girl, she battled an obsessive-compulsive disorder and suffered anxiety linked to word associations. Ford was first interested in acting at the age of teenager, and she joined the National Youth Theatre. After being accepted at the Sylvia Young Theatre School for only a few days but Ford realized this was not the best venue for her. Ford, instead of applying to Central School of Speech and Drama and winning a placement on her third attempt, applied and won a place at Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall - who later was the character Pete Tyler in Doctor Who - was one of her fellow students. Ford's television debut was in a 1991 episode Surgical Spirit. By the moment she was done with school, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate first appeared on television in 1991, appearing on television shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. The regular theatre work she performed brought her into The Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 Season. Tate was first noticed for her stand up comedy in the year 1996.
